My PS2 has a tough time reading discs too. Takes about 5-10 minutes. The digital optical output is for audio only. I have that hooked up to my receiver. I'm also using the S-Video for the video. You can hook up your keyboard and mous to the USB ports for some games. The thing Bbandit linked to is similar to what I'm using. You take the yellow RCA video plug or the S-Video plug, hook it up to that, then that black box hooks up to a USB port on the computer.
