Will fit fine... If you look through the thread, you will see there are ppl are running x9's in the front w/ at least 255. My post shows me running x9 & 265's (18's - on wide fenders of course, but use your imagination since you are running a smaller wheel & tire), 8.5 w/ 255 are easier to fit.
Ppl don't usually run 8.5 because that's not as common as x8 or x9.
EDIT: and to more fully answer your question, I've seen people run x9 +20 on the front w/ stock fenders, usually only 235's or so and a roll. For 255's, since you will balloon a bit w/ the sidewall, you'd want to slightly pull your fender if necessary depending on your ride height.
