As for your float working:
If you open your fuel tank to check it your retarded. It may not prove anything. Next time the car is almost empty, fill it up all the way. should take about 10 to 13 gallons, depending how empty it was. If it takes 2 gallons, then you know the float is messed up.
but sputtering and shit, could even be a bad or cracked vacum line. just replaced one on mine. was giving me horrable milage and i had to depress the accelerator a little at idol.
