Ive used hondabond with better results than permatex copper. Permatex Grey is the same as hondabond, and had held better than permatex copper when used near the exhaust manifold.

Also myself and others have fix our leak issues with the 3" gasket over the 2.5" because usually the 2.5"s outter diameter is smaler than the 3"; thats where the OEM exhaust gasket from FRsports comes to save the day, its a 2.5" ID opening, with a MUCH larger sized OD - for mating a 2.25-2.5 to a 3"

In all honesty, it would be WELL worth the cost to make a 2.5" to Flex to 3" [test pipe].

Not only would this eliminate any leaks, but relieve a shit ton of stress on manifold/studs and piping.
