Blanks work the best and cost the least - no reason to buy anything else.

For street pads, it depends... cheap and common Axxis Metal Masters work fine for most spirited driving. Good bite, soft on rotors. Hawk HPS are good too. If you spend a lot of time going downhill, or you autocross, you might consider something slightly more aggressive than those two, like Hawk HP+, Axxis Ultimate, Porterfield R4S.
