this is partially true. you are not restricted to "the same series" though. for instance, i can put ANY engine into ANY car, as long as it is the same model year or newer, and i install EVERY bit of required smog equipment that came with that engine IN A CALI CAR (not just a federal car). you can put a honda engine in a nissan or toyota into a chevy or whatever. the problem is getting all of the smog equipment to work properly.
for example, many newer cars (like the s2k) have a pressure sensor in the gas tank to monitor for potential leakage. if you decide to put an f20c/f22c into some other car, you must also install this same sensor into the fuel tank of the car the engine is going into, or swap in the actual honda tank.
this stuff has all been discussed over and over again to death, but for some reason people still wanna re-hash it on the internet, where you will get 800 people giving you 9million different answers.
