You WANT your oil temps to get above 212f. There was a tech bulletin that directly related engine wear to your coolant temps. Plus your engine control will be off if the coolant is not above 160*f. Do not run an oil cooler, you want your oil nice and hot. I really dont care about the people who jump in here to tell me wrong, but running without a T-stat could actually be worse for cooling if your running anything above 10% anti-freeze. There is no way the coolant can get to ambient temps when it spends no time in the radiator. With an OE tstat the coolant gets to ambient temp, and is cycled when needed.
i think OP is refering to a T-stat for the oil cooler. NOT for water.
