Transmission jobs are the biggest PITA. I just did one on my friends S14, I HIGHLY suggest you get yourself a transmission jack, either buy one or borrow one because it will save you a lot of headaches. Taking that transmission out was not as easy as we figured, more so to put it on.
The throw out bearings a breeze though, just follow the instructions on the FSM.
I would suggest taking the entire motor out if you don't have emissions, but even than I would suggest it because it took longer to install the transmission in the car then it would have been to pull the whole thing with the motor out.
