I pointed those trumpets in towards the diff as well; I figure the subtle difference in angle would give an unnoticably stiffer ride by having the actual shock body closer to the wheel -- that is, it would have less of a lever-effect, hence a marginally stiffer ride.
That said, I don't honestly believe it makes a difference which way you point it.
