Yes modifying cars is dumb, a waste of money blah blah blah... its a hobby for most people. some people take it a little too seriously and think the world revolves around it, it doesnt.
The same can be said about other hobbies... to each his own and if it makes you happy go for it.
On another note Id love to put condoms on each one of those fart cans on the volvo and watch them blow up.
