This is long shot whether or not it would be actually possible or not, but would you have any interest in trading your 240 + $1k for my 93 hatch. It has relatively high miles, but has been very reliable transportation for me over the course of the 2 years I have owned. Only minor things have had to be fixed, and nothing has needed to be replaced in the last year.
That way you could have reliable transportation for the winter and continue with your plans to swap later on.
