Check your coolant temp sensor.
There are two on the front of the intake manifold. The one that you care about is more then one wire.
If you have a FSM and a volt-ohm-meter you can check the coolant temp sensor for the proper resistance. If not then maybe just replace it?
The other think would be that your idle air control valve isn't working properly, but it would probably start just die alot.
DOes it not sputter/fire at all? When it doesn't start do you pull plugs to see if it's flooded ?
