This shouldn't affect starting the car though. When I swapped my SR into my old S13, I left the plug unplugged (still needed to splice it) but I knew that was just for the interior stuff, wanted to make sure it started so I cranked it and it started perfect, but it will not turn off if that white plug isn't plugged in/spliced right. Thats when you go to the engine bay and rip out the fuel fump fuse or something.

Sounds to me like some wiring issues. Only way to crank it is to jump the starter, something is wrong there...
