Wow, you like to extrapolate to get analogies. I was saying nothing of the sort.
Perhaps you do not know much about Porsche 911's? The fact that they have been air cooled for years and Porsche only switched them to water cooled in 1996 in the U.S.?
Most true Porsche fanatics do not like the water cooled versions.
I spoke from that line of thinking. Its also been said that the 993 was the last 911 to have a true 911 feel and much more solid hand built feel. While the 996 and 997 feel like mass produced cars and do not have the immediacy of the 993 and earlier 911's.
It was in fact the first 911 to have truly sorted out a lot of the suspension driving issues and yet retain the old school feel for what Porches were known for .
A lot of people will say both the 996 and 997 do not have that feel. Some will say its for the better aka more electronic gizmo's and others will say that shit fucks the cars up.
The OP himself admitted he liked 993's and earlier 911's better as well. He got a smoking deal.
It does not change the fact that some will say the last of the great 911's ended with the watercooled 993's even Porsche mechanics have echoed those sediments. hence the phrase a true Porsche.
Oh and to make a true analogy to my statement Ferrari 246 Dino which was a flat 6 and Most Ferrari owners at the time did not consider it a true Ferrari because it was not a 12 cylinder which was Ferrari's stock in trade at the time.
Just like the 911's stock in trade at the the time of the first water cooled ones was air cooled.
