I actaully just installed the LCA and tension rod off a 97 on my 96. Exact same. I had such a problem trying to get them to line up. WHat u gotta do is bolt in the LCA to chassis and knuckle. then bolt on the t/c rod to the lca. Then take a jack and jack up duner the lca, the t/c rod should line up to the hole after you jack it up a litlle. That is a trick that i used.
....hhaah whats funny is i spent like 2 hours wondering why my lca and tension rod would not fit. Yeah, it was def. a S13 one. I was pissed cause that is what the junkyard delivered to me. So i went and picked one off a 97 in a junkyard. Oh well. Works now. All my bushings are shot like non-other. I have PDM ones waiting to get put in.....sorry for going OT. Im really bored.
