go look at it, forget about compression testing it if it will run and idle fine. see if you can get a ride or drive it. If the seller flakes on that walk away. Obviously theres an issue if he cant take you for a ride in it to go through all the gears and show you its good to go.
If the seller wont start it then ask to compression test it, or even turn it over. If they cant show you that its ready to go then dont bother. Why fix someone elses head ache
