TC rod questions

Trying to isolate cause of steering woes. Vague steering, bad tracking, clunking, BUT under extreme breaking and cornering it feels as if my front left wheel shifts backwards a noticable amount. I have put semi-new tc rods and bushing on that side. So I'm trying to figure out what else would cause the movement? Could it be the tie rods? Im not sure that they would allow for movement in that direction. Was looking at Pdm-Racing and they say that it could be the front top bearing mount unsulator? Anyways what would be the best way to check the tc rod, tie rods, and the bearing insulator or anything else it might be? If i jack the car up and fiddle with the linkages and anything moves replace it or what? Any help is appreciated.
