It'll go together. It might not seem like it but it will. My car did this same thing everytime I've dropped the trans. Reach your fingers in the back of the trans where the drive shaft goes in at, and twist it while you wiggle the trans back and forth and push it in. Helps if you have another guy in the front tilting the motor. Also you could get a piece of wood and hit the back of the trans in, that's what I had to do once. Mine never just slid in easy.
