I don't know how much you do or don't know but here are some links that I found helpful...

BTW honda/acura is the only company that has vtec, but a lot of other car companies have similar things.

"Several engine manufacturers are experimenting with systems that would allow infinite variability in valve timing" I think porshe succeeded at this with their new 911 turbo...
