hmm you should be having no speedo problems. the speed sensors are the same vintage so the gauge cluster should read write . Did you by any chance rewire your speed sensor? if you gott the wires switched around it might cause your problem. Its pretty easy to cut the two wires and resplice them to test this theory.
The other thing is to throw in the gauge cluster that came with the clip and see if it is working properly.
Oh and yes speed sensors can get damaged and stop working properly . Just trying to think of every possible thing that could cause your problem.
