Car dies when taken out of gear, etc.
Sup, I got an S13 SR20DET in my S14. The most notable thing is that I have a BOV that is vented to atmosphere aka not recirc'd. I know that this would be a huge culprit in this kind of thing but I still want a few opinions.
I have had my car with that setup for over a year now and for the first 10 months this problem has never occurred. There is nothing different really about the car, just out of no where, suddenly when I w.ould take the car out of gear, whether it be just cruising or spirited driving, my idles would drop really low and sometimes die.
Before the car is warmed up it is fine really. Car idles at about 700rpm I would say. It is running a bit rich right now and I know for sure that I have an exhaust leak... I need to replace my down pipe cause it's all fucked, but just haven't had the time or money/motivation to do so.
But yeah, besides that, the car drives perfectly fine. It's just that sometimes when I pop the car into neutral, RPMs may drop all the way down and sometimes it will recover by itself. Sometimes I give it gas to stay alive. Sometimes it just dies. Turning the car back on right after that, sometimes it does the same thing and just dies.
Any other input? As stated I know that a BOV that isn't recirc'd could cause this problem, but like I said, I ran it fine like that for the first 10 months without any such incident. I would recirc it but I need the fitting and was looking for a quick fix but if I must, I'll just order the fitting to get it done.
Oh yeah, no the car was never tuned but even with the BOV the car never ran incredibly rich. Idled just fine (before the exhaust leak) at 14.7 and would lean out/rich up appropriately.
