The beating could have been much worse... he was able to walk away...

Sure it happens alot, but most of the time it is not documented, and I'm sure the mass would agree that it is wrong in each situation.
it is excessive to continue hitting the kid after the first few punches where thrown and the kid not throwing any punches back to provoke the continuation of it. It is excessive when the culprit makes the comment "I will kill you" , pretty much. I hope that is used against him. It is excessive that these lil bitchass kids where wearing masks to be covered up, it is excessive that he had a group with him to back him up, it is excessive that they filmed it and did it when no one else was around.
Back in my highschool days, if someone got in a fight and lost, they where the joke of the school.. that was always bullshit imo..
