All these factors, (and more...including driving style..rabbit starts, lead foot, etc), affect gas mileage. Let us know what you've done, or haven't done, and maybe we can help you improve your gas mileage...
And as for the burning a quart of oil, are your rings shot? How bout the valves? Rev the engine at 2k for about 30 seconds, see if you get any white smoke out the tailpipe. If you do then you're definitely burning oil. Try doing a compression test & see what results you get back.

By the way, a KA24DE get's the same lousy gas mileage..you'll only average about 22 mpg. That's what I'm averaging now....it's a shame I have a lead foot....the intake & exhaust don't help either!!

i have replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, and plug wires, i'm not so much worried abotu the gas mileage as i am about the burning oil, and yes it does blow smoke
