When this kind of pump produces more pressure, it also produces less flow. Using thicker oil increases pressure and decrease flow ... but if there is nearly no flow, i dont think it will help. I would just verify the level again and again to make sure there is enough, changing the oil pressure switch for a known working one and try again. I would not top up until the problem is known. If it had oil delivery failure because there was not enough oil, then engine is fooked either way, so no point in wasting oil.
And if it lights up again there already is engine damage. If it does not ... then you know it was a faulty sensor.
