Yes. Drive the piss out of it like you don't care what happens. You'll learn.
The best thing for me when I was learning was doing ride-alongs with more experienced drivers, then trying to copy them.
You dont need to play with air pressures. Just set the front to factory and air the rear up to A BILLION (like 55). Release air for more grip as you get better.
And yes, portable tire pumps are boss. The only reason I dont have one is because my friend does lol.
