Z31 300ZX rear brakes could be a decent upgrade.
They share the same pads as the 240SX, but have a 42mm piston.

'84-86 Z31 uses a 290mm solid rotor, which came in both 4-lug and 5-lug.
'87-89 Z31 uses a 282mm vented rotor, in 5-lug.

I got some from the junkyard to tinker with. I hoped they would line right up as the other OEM Nissan brake swaps, but unfortunately it seems spacing would be necessary.
Another issue would also be figuring out a way to hook up the handbrake lever. However, the mechanism is close enough to the 240SX setup, and I think it can be done with a bit of work.
The Z31 brakes are actually on the opposite sides of the hub. This wasn't an easy swap idea. Already tried it.

S14 brakes are a better idea. Find my article on FA and you'll be in luck with every last one of these questions.

Actually, here:

All the reading you can enjoy. I put tons of effort into this years ago. I have the best brake setup going as far as effectiveness and being cheap/OEM.

Oh and for those that bought the 87-89 bracket, those are vented and will not work with the setup I found which works for non vented discs. That's why some dumb people have their brake pads falling out.
