Porterfields are more expensive than hawks. As for eating through rotors; the R4 (their "race" pad) will eat through rotors with a quickness. It also won't work worth a damn until it gets heated up big-time. The R4S is plenty friendly on rotors (I ran them on my old dodge stealth).
I'm about to switch over to Hawk HP+ pads on my 240, but that's only because I'm getting an awesome deal on them ($70 for a set of new z32 front pads) from my friend who blew up hiz Z :-x
