if I were you.... I would get a block and just do a basic rebuild on it. tear it down, clean everything and put it back together. It's scary to assemble your first motor with expensive parts when you don't know what you are doing. Nothing beats experience and you are better off experiencing it with stock internals. Overall less risk in the wallet department.
