There never was a bov on the CA18DET. The hole you refer to is for breathers, and is too small to be used for a real recirc, but it will do the trick to prevent problems with leaky valves.
As for the synapse BOV, it is a very basic single piston design. While it works well recirced or on MAP systems, it cant work as a bov with MAF systems (because it leaks). Either get their kit, which looks like the double piston design introduced by HKS and its SSQV, recirc it or get a real SSQV (or any valve that has that double piston design)
Performance wise, recircing is better, but you need some fab skills or someone who can weld. You need a 90° silicone hose, 45° bent metal tube welded together, a fitting tube welded to these to recirc, a hose to fit your MAF, and couplers (and of course a hose to go from the dump valve to the fitting)
Here is how it is done on mine. Note the recirc fitting appears to be at 90° but is not, it really comes at a very small angle in the tube, i'd say something like 15-20° .
