I hear ya, this is how I imagine getting off of a stop like this should go. Save the arguing for the courtroom by your lawyer.

Pulled over-

Cop: "SR20?"
You: "No, sir"
Cop: "License & registration please"
**goes back to car then comes back**
Cop: "I'm going to need you to pop your hood"
You: "Sir, I do not grant you consent to search my vehicle and the hood latch is broken anyways."
Cop: "I have probable cause for illegal modification because of intercooler, exhaust, hella jdm parts, and also just because you're driving some jap crap."
You: "I see. I am reminding you I do not consent to this search officer."
**sinces he's going to search it anyway step back and allow it to happen**

Then when you get to the trial, the lawyer will move to suppress any evidence due to an unlawful search which includes any photos or documentation saying you do in fact have illegal modification. The judge will have the officer step forward (if he even shows) and explain his observations on why he believes you had modified emissions. However, since the evidence is most likely suppressed on the case now your lawyer will do their thing and the ticket gets thrown out. Its all a buncha BS but its better to go through all this then swapping engines and such once a year for a ref check in my opinion.
