Don't just drill it out and drill a bigger hole, then tap it. If you are going to fix it, do it the right way. Drill the whole out and get a product called Helicoil. They are hardened steel inserts that go inside the damaged thread. What you do is you get the proper pitch/tap kit and it gives you a bigger tap. You drill it, tap it and then screw in the helicoil. Then you screw in the bolt. That is the way you fix it. I had that problem on my exhaust manifold studs on my turbo'd integra. Try that, I did and it worked and it was worth it.
