Well, what you could have done was not tap his bumper again, but confront him about the comments he made. It's always better to not get physical about things.
Actually, you're pretty lucky that he didn't decide to sue you. With all those witnesses and all, you would have definitly lost the case. That is the kind of world we live in. (I don't like it by the way...)
