I personally found trimming new carpet to be a real pain in the ass. Mainly by the door sills, getting it to tuck nicely under the scuff plates. My biggest regret is not spraying down a bit of adhesive to form the carpet better, cause it's easy to cut it a bit short when the carpet's still new and stiff. A good piece of advice is let the new carpet sit in the hot sun for a few hours (or more) before putting it in. And make sure there's NO excess by the pedals so that they don't get hung up on the material.
