Yes this radiator is pretty rusty I might fix my 2 row aluminum rad see how that does.
And what would eliminating the heater core help with?? It's not leaking.
The next steps I'm doing is
1. Flushing coolant system
2. Putting on an aluminum rad
3. Thermal test gun thingy and check if it's real at operating temp
4. Swap this Ka lol
It really is a reliable car it's getting warm and I never let it get hot once I see it warming up I blast the heater and it's fine

Or replace a 5 dollar gauge temp sensor and see if thats the issue, much cheaper and less time than any of your steps proposed
If it was a heater core, your floor would be wet by the feet.
How many thermostats did you try?
