High 14's on an Si w/ bolt ons is not BS. A good friend of mine is famous in Si-world for being the first to pull sub 15's w/ I/E only, full intereior, on street tires. I've seen the slip and watched the pass. His "technique" is now practiced by Si owners everywhere. AFAIK, there are several others who have duplicated this feat and many who have enlisted additional bolt-on help (or gutting) to get these types of numbers.
As for performance: don't get me wrong - I sold my pristine Si hatch to get my s14, but there are some seriously fast Hondas out there - straight line, autox, or lapping days. Sure, there's relatively more rice - but remember - the vetrans that starting messing with imports back in the early 90s, before the hype, picked the Honda for a reason.
