A common view in the south and with many historians is that the civil war had more to do with long standing rivalries and the rights of states than any other accessory subject. Slaves were just property to the southerners, as sad as it sounds, and it would piss anybody off if something worth hundreds of thousands of dollars was just randomly going to be declared not theirs.
If you spend 200k on a business, and someone in the next state whos party has house/senatorial majority says that you owning the business is wrong, and that the business will be taken without any reparation, you would probably be just as pissed.

At the same time all these blacks were being sold as slaves here (purchased from other black people in Africa), irish people were being sold as slaves in england, so u know, slavery was a very terrible, opportunistic measure of the times.

Anyway, point is, people can remember whatever the hell they want, its their right.

The Romans owned slaves, are we gonna tear down the colloseum?
Correct me if I'm wrong, govt places can't hold the confederate flags, but people are still free to do so. About your slave ownership and losing business comparison, I get that they thought that way back then, but why are you trying to justifying it. They're people, not property, let the slave owners be upset. Free the people.
