Why I hate buying Used Cars:

I hate people. Theres an ad in today's paper for an 87 MR2 5 speed. Heres the ad...

Toyota MR2 RED! New clutch, brakes, tires, head gasket. AM/FM/CD T-Tops Engine needs work. Runs good now. $1000

So I call the guy up for shits and giggles, as I'm always looking for a fun project car. I like the old MR2's, so I figure I'll check this one out.

Talk to the guy over the phone. "Oh its in great shape, exterior is perfect, interior is great, only missing a few things. No rust anywhere on the body."

I ask, Does it run ok?

"Oh ya, it runs great. Theres just a little smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. Other than that its perfect."

Naturally I go check the car out. 30 miles later, I'm there. What a fuckin piece of shit of a car.

The entire car was spray can painted a shitty red after someone slapped a layer of bondo over the entire car, and sanded it with what appears to be 250 grit sandpaper. Scratches all over the paint job, should should i say bondo job. Front bumper is half off the car, rust in the door jams ( Chunks falling out) Center console had a huge hole in the plastic, instrument cluster didn't work. Parking brake was broken. ( Car was on driveway, a piece of wood kept it from rolling down.)

I decide to take it for a spin for the hell of it. Severe vibrations, gas pedal is nearly frozen. The clutch felt like shit. The brakes weren't new, I looked at them, and the rotors... looked shot. It pulls hard to the right when you brake. Did I mention the engine bay was disgusting? Oh, and the smoke... Not just smoke. The car was filled in moments of driving it. It was belching smoke out the exhaust like I have never seen.

So I look at the guy, and go. How much cash for it? His reply:

"Well I've put over 3000 into it... I won't take less than 1000. Its a rare car."

I point to my 240 coupe, in near mint condtion and tell him I paid 1500 for it, and its a 93.

"Well thats not a rare car."

Instead of punching him in the mouth, I laughed and left. After peeling out in front of his house of course.
