UK Data Protection issues are handled by the Information Commissioner's office. Here?s what they have to say about IP addresses.
"An IP address in isolation is not personal data under the Data Protection Act, according to the Information Commissioner. But an IP address can become personal data when combined with other information or when used to build a profile of an individual, even if that individual's name is unknown."
So posting an IP address alone is not posting personal information. But if I was to post John Smith?s IP address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
If you want to post your name so you can put yourself in hot water feel free.
