Constitution of the US Section 8:

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

Note the verbiage: "provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States." I'm not really seeing how deposing dictators and increasing opium production in Afghanistan is contributing to our defense. I'm not really seeing how adding trillions to the national debt is contributing to our general welfare.
The armed forces are necessary and the act of joining for the nation's defense is laudable. The conflicts soldiers/sailors/airmen have fought in since WW2 have not been. Tens of thousands of young men and women have been killed not because the United States was defending itself from a clear threat but rather because the Congress has engaged in saber-rattling, "pre-emptive strikes," and general geopolitical meddling. A privileged ruling class of politicians sent an overwhelmingly poor and middle-class group of draftees and volunteers to fight unpopular and unnecessary wars and have never been held accountable. You want to venerate the troops? Metaphorically light up the motherfuckers who sent them into needless battle. String them from metaphorical trees, metaphorically tar and feather them, literally strip them of power and wealth. This is our country, and politicians need to be reminded of that occasionally.
I truly cannot believe this is my country now, though. Idiot mouthbreathers running public opinion, controlling the narrative, always talking, talking, talking. Posting stupid fucking memes that are flat fucking wrong. Putting out sound bites and tweets that people get as their news. People comparing looting to the goddamn tea party and some dumb fucking kid to a hero- don't you see that there isn't change around the corner? We aren't going to throw off the shackles- we're preparing them for ourselves (we have a red pair and a blue pair and -surprise- it's the same pair) and it's literally exactly what our enemies want. They want the balance of power to tip, and they want it to happen without a war.
We already lost this election, now we have four years to find someone who might point us in the right direction.
