The sound is not so much JUST because its a boxer engine but also because the exhaust flow pulses, which happens because the stock exhaust manifold is unequal length. I would think you would get a very slightly similar effect with an unequal length manifold on other engines.

yes unequal length headers cause the burble sound. when you install equal length headers it doesnt sound nearly as good, even honduh-esque. the WRX STi Spec C has equal length headers and a twinscroll turbo, it sounds nothing like a regular scoob.
