ok here is the deal , there is a slight chance the 95 manual ecu could be OBDI depending on how early in 95 the car it was on came out. Nissan did the switch in 95 from OBDI to OBDII . Thing is if you use a OBDI ecu on a OBDII car your seriously gonna be assed out in the smog department as in they will fail you.
Using the 98 auto ecu can be done but not so much the idle issue is the real issue at hand here is the fact that 98 is OBDII which is a lot pickier system.
That means the computer is looking for that auto trans when it does not see it will throw code and turn on your check engine light again your car will run fine but if you try to smog it it will be an automatic fail. Smog techs are instructed to fail the car if the check engine light is on and the smog computer will fail the car if its throwing code.
If you have a 98 your gonna have to find yourself a 97-98 5 speed ecu plain and simple. Sorry you do not have the freedom that S13 owners (OBDI) have. Thats what you get for wishing to own a newer car you have to live with the consequences.
