It's not designed to be an exotic sportscar like the 7 was! Thats why it has 4 seats and is non-turbo! The 8 has an even better suspension setup than the 7 and will be 1000% more reliable. 0-60 in 6.0 seconds from a non turbo 1.3 liter car, cmon give it a break. If it sells enough, its rumored Mazda will build a 7 based off of the RX-8 platform. Then you can draw comparisons.</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
Of course we're going to compare it to the RX-7. They dubbed it the RX-8, therefore they are comparing it to the 7 themselves! That would be like saying you can't compare an S13 and an S14 because they are two different generations, with different styling. The RX-8 was meant to take after the RX-7 end of story. Whether or not it was designed as a sports car or not (I wouldn't go so far as to say exotic, a Ferarri is an exotic, not an RX-7), makes no difference, everyone will compare it to the 3rd Gen Rex regardless.
If Mazda didn't want it to be compared, then they shouldn't have given it the name that they did. Because of that name, I am dissappointed with the product they are putting out, for the reason that it is not the car that the FD was.</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
There's reasons why they don't make the 7 anymore - in short, little sales. So why would they make a whole new car like the 7 - 2 seater, turbo, etc - if it wouldn't sell? The 8 definately follows the heritage of the RX series. A 240 was always a 240. A RX-7 is different than an RX-8 just like its different from all the other RXs. I know it's impossible not to compare it to the 7, but its a great car in its own right. I wish everyone would cut it a break just because of the 7s legacy. And yes I still believe the 7 was an exotic.
