Fluid has NOTHING to do with your VLSD working...the viscous coupler that locks the wheels is sealed, and once it wears out, you have to replace it.

...but one-wheeling it into a driveway does no necessarily mean it's dead. The VLSD 'locks' when the fluid in the coupler heats up...and it tranfers what power it can to the other wheel. If one can spin freely, however...the other will only get maybe ~25% of the power, which isn't enough to move the car up a hill.

Does the wheel that's in the air move at all? (hint: next time you pull in, come in slow, let the car almost stop when the wheel in up...then give it a good amout of gas. As it pulls up, and the other wheel hits the ground...it should give a good "chirp" if it was spinning)
