Because it is too damn hard to read a digital number readout on the fly. It just doesn't update fast enough. It is so much easier to see a sweeping gauge... For example, my Greddy ProfecB Spec II has a digital boost readout, but it is impossible to read until you reach peak boost. When boost is climbing, it is just numbers flashing and impossible to read on the fly...
