Yep, you can futz a lot with toe/camber/caster to alter cornering grip, balance, and various other handling characteristics.
While some R comps are cheaper than some street tires (i.e. expensive Michelins, BF Goodrich), you can generally find a sticky street tire for way less than R comps. For example, Kumho MX is a good sticky street tire with high heat tolerance, and they cost less than any R comp out there. Ditto for Hankook Z212 and Falken Azenis, albeit without the heat tolerance.
