is it getting pinched between the piston and the brake pad?

that is bad dude.

edit:

oh yah. pedal to the floor = bad m/c *or* leak in the hydraulic system. since you smelled fluid, its probably a leak. so start lookin. you wont see a slow fluid loss in the m/c because it takes alot of time for the air (coming in at the source of the leak) to travel all the way up there.
