ACtually the ninja would dress up as a commoner, a farmer, gardner, or a drunk at a saloon. When the moment was right and the ninja was assured that his strike would be lethal, he would do whatever it is he had planned and kill the cowboy without him ever knowing.
Anyone who's anyone knows that. Ninjas didn't always wear black. They were also masters of disguise and finding opportune moments to strike down their opponents. Once the emporer of Japan hired the ninja to work for him, they would spend their day gardening, and whenver an intruder entered the emporer's compound they would all strike using their gardening tools to stop any threat.
What the hell is a cowboy gonna do against that? He wont even know whats happening until he's got a katana sticking thru his throat.
