cams?? that would be my guess different cams exhibit different rev caracteristics.

Most likely not . there may be small differences in the head casting. I know that the S14 smog setup under the hood leaves a lot more room without having to move stuff for the Turbo.
I know S14's came with OBDII which is a really picky ECU setup compared to our S13's.
I put a 98 5 speed trans in my car when I did my auto to 5 speed swap . I had to put in the earlier S13 5 speed speed sensor because the later one did not send out the right pulse and my speedo was off?
so there could be a couple of little gremlins but nothing major IMHO .
