Thought I'd follow up and share what I figured out that I'm going to do. It seems like an inline filter with 5/8 hose barbs does not exist in entirety, but I did find this on McMasterCarr with 3/8 NPT threaded ends, so I shouldn't have a problem clamping a 5/8 ID hose on either side and should do me just fine. Nice and small so it shouldn't look too ugly.
