in my experience, the last is always correct unless you're changing pinion gear or bearing.
every time I've taken a stock diff and installed an aftermarket LSD, the lash has always been correct.
now, is it good practice to paint it and check the lash? ABSOLUTELY.
but, ive replaced a number of stock s13/14 diffs with aftermarket LSD and the lash has always been spot on.
